TikTok slideshow automation: how it works end to end
How TikTok photo posts and Instagram carousels get made and posted automatically: the idea, the images, the text, the music and the post, step by step.
TikTok slideshow automation means producing and posting TikTok photo posts (and their Instagram cousin, the carousel) without making each one by hand. A slideshow has five parts, and automation can cover any or all of them: the idea and hook, the images, the text on each slide, the music, and the posting. Most tools automate one or two of those steps. A full pipeline goes from a topic, or a viral slideshow you want to learn from, to a post live on an account.
This guide walks through each step, the kinds of tools that cover them, and how Pamba runs the whole chain.
What is a TikTok slideshow?
A TikTok slideshow is a photo post: a set of still images that viewers swipe through, usually with a line of text burned onto each image and a sound playing underneath. TikTok launched it as Photo Mode in October 2022, which Search Engine Journal described as a carousel format for still images that creators can add music to.
Instagram's version is the carousel. In August 2024 Instagram raised the carousel limit to 20 photos or videos (PetaPixel, TechRadar).
Slideshows suit lists, step-by-step guides, before-and-after stories, "things I wish I knew" formats and product comparisons: anything where each swipe reveals the next beat.
How does slideshow automation work, step by step?
1. The idea and the hook
Everything depends on the first slide. Its job is to make the viewer swipe. There are two ways to start:
- From a topic: you or a writer (human or AI) turns a topic into a hook, a story across the slides, and a payoff on the last one.
- From a format that already works: you find a slideshow that is performing in your niche and write your own version on the same pattern: the same kind of hook, the same story shape, the same look, with your content.
The second route is usually more reliable, for the same reason it is for video: a format that is already working in your niche has passed a test your new idea has not.
2. The images
Each slide needs a picture. The options are your own photos, stock or library images, or images generated by an AI image model from a description of each slide. Generated images save time but need a consistent style across the show, or the slideshow looks like five unrelated pictures.
3. The text on each slide
The words are burned onto the image: font, size, position and width matter because the TikTok interface covers parts of the screen. Good automation keeps text in readable zones and applies one consistent style across slides.
4. The music
On TikTok, a photo post's sound comes from TikTok's own library. Instagram carousels take a track from Instagram's library. The two libraries differ, and music availability differs by country, so a pipeline that posts to both needs to pick a sound for each.
5. The post
Finally the slides go up in swipe order, with a caption, on the right account, at the right time. This is the step many tools hand off to a scheduler or to the platform's own posting options, and it is where "automated" often stops.
What kinds of slideshow tools exist?
The landscape splits by which steps a tool covers:
| Kind of tool | Covers | Leaves to you |
|---|---|---|
| Design and template apps | Images, text layout | Ideas, music, posting |
| AI slideshow generators | Ideas, images, text | Often music and posting |
| Social schedulers, including ones with APIs or MCP servers | Posting on a schedule | Making the slideshow |
| Managed account services | Accounts and posting | Often making the content |
| End-to-end platforms | Idea through posting | Your review and taste |
Pick by where your bottleneck is. If you already make great slides, a scheduler is enough. If ideas are the bottleneck, start with the format research.
How does Pamba automate slideshows?
Pamba covers the whole chain, in the app or through its agent. From the Studio help article and Pamba's product docs:
- Two ways to start. On Create, the Slideshow card has Replicate: pick a viral TikTok photo post (Pamba lists them for your niche, or you paste a link) and Pamba reads every slide (its role, words and picture), writes new slides for your business on the same pattern, and paints each picture as a variation of the original's. Or Your lines: each line you write becomes one slide, exactly as written.
- 1 to 20 slides, in shapes from 9:16 to 16:9. Your own uploads, media library images and your avatar's photo are free to use; each AI-painted image costs 15 credits.
- An editor for every slide. Change words, restyle text with presets, move and scale the image, add pictures on top, reorder slides (the first is the cover), or re-roll one slide's image.
- Music per platform. One sound from TikTok's library for the TikTok post, and a separate track from Instagram's library for the Instagram post. An Instagram carousel needs a track before it can go out.
- Posting from real phones. Schedule it as a TikTok photo post, an Instagram carousel (one slide goes out as a single photo), or both. On Instagram you can also post it as a reel built from the slides, each slide showing for 4 seconds. Pamba's phones post from inside the TikTok and Instagram apps (scheduling posts).
- Analytics. Views come back to your dashboard. Instagram shows carousel views only to the posting account, so the account's phone reads them from the post's insights about three days after posting (analytics).
- From your own agent. The same steps are tools on Pamba's MCP server, so Claude Code or another agent can create, edit and schedule slideshows.
On the pricing page, the Hobby plan's credits average about 26 slideshows a month and Pro about 166, both counted on 4-slide slideshows.
What should I watch out for when automating slideshows?
- One slideshow, one account per platform. Platforms recognize the same content on a second account. Pamba refuses to schedule a slideshow on a second TikTok (or second Instagram) account once another has it.
- Label realistic AI images. TikTok's Community Guidelines "require creators to label AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking scenes or people." That applies to slides as much as to videos.
- Do not chase volume over quality. In our study of 6,678 TikTok videos across 110 accounts, 42% never reached 1,000 views. That study covered videos, not slideshows, but the lesson carries: most posts go nowhere, so the format choice matters more than the posting rate.
- Check the music. A TikTok Business account can use only commercially cleared sounds, and an Instagram song available elsewhere may not be available in the US.
Frequently asked questions
What is TikTok photo mode?
TikTok's format for posting still images that viewers swipe through, with a sound under them. It launched in October 2022. People usually call these posts slideshows.
Can you automate TikTok slideshows?
Yes. Tools can generate the idea, images and text, and schedulers or managed account services can post them. Pamba does the whole chain, from idea to a post from a real phone.
How many slides should a TikTok slideshow have?
There is no official best number. Pamba supports 1 to 20 slides; start from the slide count of a format that is already working in your niche.
Can one slideshow go to TikTok and Instagram?
Yes. In Pamba the same slideshow can post as a TikTok photo post and an Instagram carousel (or reel), each with its own sound from that platform's library.
Can I upload my own music to a TikTok slideshow?
Not through Pamba: a TikTok photo post takes its sound from TikTok's own library, so Pamba picks the sound you chose in TikTok's picker when the post goes out.
