What is TikTok account warming?
Account warming means using a new TikTok account normally in its niche before and between posts. What it involves, what nobody knows, and what it cannot do.
TikTok account warming means using a new account the way a real person in its niche would, before and between posts: watching videos in that niche, searching for its topics, liking what is genuinely good, and following creators worth following. The point is for the account's own feed to settle into its niche, so the account is an active, ordinary member of the community it plans to post into. It is not a trick, and it is not a guarantee of anything.
This post covers what warming involves, why people do it, exactly what Pamba's warming sessions do, and what nobody outside TikTok actually knows.
Why do people warm a new TikTok account?
TikTok has said what shapes the For You feed. Its newsroom post How TikTok recommends videos #ForYou lists user interactions first: "the videos you like or share, accounts you follow, comments you post, and content you create." A brand-new account has none of that yet, so its feed is generic.
Spending time in a niche gives the account those interactions. Its feed starts showing the videos, sounds and formats that niche is watching right now, which is useful in itself: the person or team running the account sees what works in the space they are about to post into. That is the plain, defensible reason to warm an account. It is the same thing a new creator does naturally when they spend a week watching their niche before they post.
Is there an official TikTok warming rule?
No. TikTok has not published a warming period, a number of sessions, or a checklist that a new account must complete. Neither has Instagram. Advice like "warm for exactly seven days" or "watch 30 videos a day" is folklore, not platform guidance, and you should treat any precise number with suspicion, including from vendors.
What TikTok has published is relevant in a different way. Its Community Guidelines do not allow "services that artificially boost engagement or trick the recommendation system." Warming that means real viewing in a real niche fits normal use of the app. "Warming" that means bought likes, follow-for-follow schemes or mass engagement is the kind of fake engagement those guidelines prohibit, whatever it is called.
What does a warming session actually involve?
At Pamba, every TikTok and Instagram account lives on a physical iPhone, and warming runs by itself on every account. Pamba sets the pace. From our account warming help article, a session can:
- Watch and scroll the feed, the main activity.
- Search the account's niche, using its search terms. Until you set your own, Pamba suggests terms from your workspace niche. A creator's handle works as a search term too.
- Like, read comments and follow creators in that niche.
- Leave things alone: ads and creators who look under 18 are never liked or followed.
You can steer it:
- Search terms per account, or per avatar for all of its accounts.
- A niche of its own for an account whose topic differs from the rest of the workspace.
- Two switches: turn searches off (the session only browses the feed) or follows off (the session follows no one). Warming keeps running either way.
Posts and new-account setup come first. A scheduled post can take the phone from a warming session, and the session is re-booked.
Can I see what warming did?
Yes, and you should be able to with any provider. Each account's Activity card in Pamba lists every session with its status, length and what it did (videos watched, likes, comment reads, creators followed, the search term), plus sample screenshots from the phone and a link to the full set. Posts, daily health checks and profile edits show up in the same feed.
If a provider will not show you what it does on your account, you cannot judge whether its "warming" is normal use or something you would not want your brand attached to.
What will warming not do?
Warming is easy to oversell, so here is what it does not do:
- It does not guarantee reach. The video still decides. Across our own 6,678 videos on 110 TikTok accounts, 42% never reached 1,000 views. Accounts posting from real phones in their niche still see most videos go nowhere.
- It does not protect an account from enforcement. No warming routine makes an account immune to TikTok's rules, and anyone promising "no bans" or "no shadowbans" is promising something they cannot control.
- It does not replace good content. A warmed account posting weak videos is a weak account.
- It does not change the account's country. Warming shapes what the account sees, not where it is. For reaching a US audience from abroad, see how to reach US TikTok audiences from outside the US.
We also do not know, and TikTok has not said, whether warming changes how TikTok distributes the account's own posts. What is documented is that an account's interactions shape its own feed. We would rather say that plainly than claim more.
How should I warm an account by hand?
If you are running one or two accounts yourself, warming is just using the app well:
- Pick the niche first. Write down ten to twenty search terms your audience would actually type.
- Watch for real. Spend time in the feed and on those searches. Watch videos through when they are good, skip when they are not.
- Engage with what you would actually engage with. Like what is good, follow creators you would want to see again, read the comments to learn how your audience talks.
- Keep notes. Formats, hooks and sounds that keep coming up are your first content ideas.
- Then post, and keep using the app. Warming does not stop at the first post. An account that only posts and never watches is not how anyone uses TikTok.
What to avoid: anything that inflates numbers rather than reflects real interest. Engagement groups, bought followers and automated mass liking are fake engagement under TikTok's guidelines.
How often should a new account post after warming?
There is no official number. In Pamba's own guidance (scheduling posts), a new account in its first 10 days does best posting once a day, and any other account at most 2 or 3 times a day. Pamba warns you past that and never stops you, because the choice is yours.
Frequently asked questions
What does warming a TikTok account mean?
Using a new account normally in its niche (watching, searching, liking and following) before and between posts, so its feed settles into that niche.
How long should I warm a TikTok account?
Neither TikTok nor Instagram publishes a warming period. Any exact number of days is a rule of thumb, not platform guidance.
Does warming prevent bans or shadowbans?
No. Nothing guarantees that. Follow TikTok's Community Guidelines, post real content, and label AI content where the guidelines require it.
Is account warming against TikTok's rules?
Using the app normally is not. Bought engagement, follow schemes or anything built to "trick the recommendation system" is prohibited by TikTok's Community Guidelines. This is not legal advice.
Does Pamba warm Instagram accounts too?
Yes. Warming runs on every TikTok and Instagram account on a Pamba phone, with the same search terms, niche and switches.
